OLs host the largest community opening world cup party in Warwickshire

The Rugby World Cup kicked off on Friday night at Twickenham with many local pubs and clubs hosting events to celebrate, but most were eclipsed by the world cup launch at Old Leamingtonians Rugby Club as 700 members, guests and the local community joined together to watch and celebrates England's Victory over Fiji.

Central to the evening’s entertainment was the Giant outdoor TV Screen showing the game, it stood taller than the rugby posts and ensured that everyone could see the game. In fact the 10 meter by 5 meter screen was the largest outdoor screening of the RWC opening night in the United Kingdom.

The party was kicked off with a touch rugby festival for adults and children, with many local primary schools taking part. Thanks to local funding all the children received a RWC party bag and a bespoke T Shirt as a reminder of the event.

As a community event, Leamington Archery Club were also on hand to offer all attendees the opportunity to have a try at hitting a bullseye. In addition a BBQ, rugby skills challenges, a children’s bar and bouncy castles kept the families entertained.

The club will show all the World Cup games and plan to host further "Community Party's" to celebrate England hosting the tournament.

Thank you to all the volunteers who made the night a great success.
