Old Leamingtonians Colts v Hinckley RFC

Custer's last stand !

Not quite the battle of Little Bighorn ! - but not far off ...more of that later ...
OL's colts travelled to Hinckley RFC protecting an unbeaten run . The game started as an even contest with OLs just about gaining the territorial advantage with some excellent box kicking form Kai Bailey and some fine clearance kicks from Will Davies . However it was Hinckley who opened the scoring with a well worked pushover try following several phases of play , 5-0 but the conversion is missed . Back come OLs with a penalty from a high tackle - the resulting lineout sees a well worked training ground move and Tom Griffin goes over for the try , 5-5 the score as the conversion is missed . Its not long then before OLs take the lead from a another penalty move where the forward's pick and go from the twenty two and George Smith bundles his way over , Will Davies slots the conversion and the score goes to 5-12 . Both defences continue to go 'hammer and tong' at each other and a late tip tackle on Ed Gray sees a dust up in the middle of the pitch as his team mates rally - the result is a yellow for Callum Semple and the Hinckley No 12 . Hinckley the take advantage of a vacant backfield and score a scrappy try just before half time but miss the conversion , 10-12 . Half time .
The second half sees both teams commit to the defensive battle and there are few clear cut chances to increase the scoring . OLs forwards and backs put in a massive effort to thwart Hinckley - fresh legs are introduced by the coaches and the battle continues throughout the half with neither team managing to wrestle the advantage . With ten minutes to go Hinckley have the the territory and the bit between their teeth but only what can be said as a monumental defensive effort form the entire OLs team (all black style) manages to keep the home team out . Squeaky bum time now as the clock counts down - five yards out Hinckley go for the win with phase after phase which is repelled by OLs and at the death Hinckley appear to go over the whitewash but for a superb effort from Callum Semple who prevents the try by rolling the Hinckley player from dotting down (made up for his yellow!) . The ref blows and OLs win .

Six unbeaten - keep it up lads ....
