Barker Butts Colts v Old Leamingtonians Colts
OLs triumph in tight affair away at Barkers
OLs colts headed into the business part of the season with the next three fixture being season-defining . The first of these was a tricky away fixture at BB's . The game started well for OLs with plenty of possession but unfortunately, the pressure was not turned into points. Barkers then had their own period of territory and possession and the game was pretty even steven with both defenses on top. Halfway through the first period OLs nearly scored when Alex Witchell got on the end of a slick backs move but he fell just short of the line. There was no lack of endeavor from both sides as the tackles flew in - notably a cruncher from Thomas Wigham stood out just in front of the dugout. However, a no arms tackle saw Will Davies hit the bin for 7 mins . It took until the final minute of the half for the first score - OLs were awarded a penalty on the 40m line - a difficult kick in the conditions - but Alex Witchell stepped up and slotted a super kick, 0-3 to OLs . Half Time .
The second half produced some more attritional rugby - Will goes off with an injured shoulder and the back line is reshuffled by the coaches . Nathan Chant then enters the fray and is immediately called into action - he picks up from the back of a scrum 10 yards out - feeds the ball to Archie Semple who puts in a brilliant grubber which is weighted just perfectly for Max McCrikard to scamper over in the corner , the resulting conversion is missed but more importantly OLs go 0-8 up . With OLs now more than one score up the coaches and parents breathe a little easier. Barkers continue to rally and make this game a very close contest but a final push from the OLs pack secures possession 20 yards out - Kye Bailey chips the ball up , Alex Wicthell gathers, beats two Barkers defenders and dots down wide of the posts . The game is now safe , 0-13 in favour of OLs and there are to be no further scores . Ed Gray finishes the game with a kiss and cuddle with Barkers No 8 which sees them both in the bin and the referee calls time .
Next up Old Coventrians in the cup - should be good ......
