The 1sts continued their push for promotion with a fine win at Church Fenton on Saturday. On a placid pitch not offering anything to the bowlers,Leos restricted Fenton to 211-7. A fine batting performance, albeit a bit squeaky bum at the death, saw us home with a 7 wicket win. 50s for Chris Butt & Stuart Cobbett along with contributions from the other three batsmen, saw us needing 3 of 3 balls. A four from Josh settled the game. We are 4 points behing Garforth who are currently in the promotion spot.
The 2nds continued their slump and fell by 38 runs to Sherburn.A good bowling performace (Ollie Deane 4 for 24 off 12) saw us skittle Sherburn for 126.We were 58 for 2 off 10 in reply, but an alarming collapse saw us reduced to 66 for 8.With only 10 men turning up (not sure where the 11th got to and the 10th turned up at 2.10) a brave 18 from Javeed couldn't see us home. We are now level on points with second bottom Walton (who we play next week) and with the top 4 still to play, the situation is worrying.
Good result for the 1sts! Shame about the 2nds - sounds like a classic Leos collapse and another defeat snatched from the jaws of victory! Thanks for getting it all sorted JP and at least some cricket got played at the Crag again! Roll on Walton!
Got a FB message from Wardy (the one who failed to turn up) dated Saturday. His mobile phone is bust and he didn't have any contact Nos or email addresses - will have to tell him about this site! Anyway, his car wouldn't start and his Mum wasn't about to give him a lift. Obviously I wasn't about to pick it up Saturday. I'm sure anyone who knows him also knows he's deffinitely not a lad who wouldn't just not turn up.
J. I appreciate that Wardy isn't the sort of lad to let us down.Pity he missed out. However,we can't have people constantly late for games. It happens too often and I am sure the 1sts don't stand for it. We are in danger of going down and we need to be in the right frame of mind to win games. I was spending half my time looking at the car park for a 10th and 11th man to arrive. I got there at 11.40. You do a tough and excellent job as 2nd team skipper, not many people would do it,but we need to turn it around.
Lets all rally round and sort it out for the remainder of the season or we will be in Division 5 next year.
Set your alarm clocks.
Like it Peter! Totally agree JP starting with Walton! I'll add about getting there well in time to the team texts. I think a bit of a team talk before the match might be in order. On paper, for a fair few of the games, we are deffinitely better than we have been performing particularly in the batting - there's a scacity of 50s and tons are pie in the sky! A long way from last season when we were racking up 250 plus scores! The weather has deffinitely been a factor but the batsmen need to apply themselves, more so on the type of wickets we have been playing on - I say this of course from the safety of leading the batting averages which are not pretty reading!
