Suffolk FA Primary Cup

Quality on the bench provides the key into the next round…………

Last week we welcomed Trimley Red Devils to church road, in the 3rd round of the primary cup.
With Trimley going well in Intermediate B, we knew it was going to be a good cup tie and a good challenge for the squad. With a number of players away, we had to rely on some old faces and the walking wounded to ensure we had substitutes to bring on.
The game started slowly, with Trimley starting the stronger. They turned their good start into them taking the lead after some poor defending from a corner.
This was not the start we wanted but we soon got our acts together when Josh Wade flicked the ball onto the bar and Harry Knight smashed home the rebound! We then lost Sam Dack to injury which lead to us having to shuffle the squad around to enable Alex Farmer to come on…… upfront!!!. This bit of tactical genius then paved the way for a further 3 goals in 15 mins with Josh calmly beating their keeper from close range, Miles scoring a header and Barty stealing the ball of Farmer and firing past their helpless keeper.
At half time we all said that it was important to kill the game off, if we didn’t concede we would not lose!!
The second half was very scrappy, with both sides having chances to score but neither side converted the chances created. With Farmer clearly blowing hard after his first run out for sometime, it gave me an opportunity to give Dan Hagger some time out on pitch. With 5 minuets to go, I decided to bring myself on for Barty for a little cameo! Whilst this provided some amusement for some, it also gave me an opportunity to realise that I had actually lost what I had when I last played 4 years ago……… which wasn’t a lot! Although I still managed to get caught offside, throw myself into the odd tackle and miss a one on one!! I think I am best to live off the memory’s instead thinking I can still play!
The game finished 4-1 and we have made our way into the hat for the next round! Great effort guys!!

This week we are in cup action again, this time against Cranes Reserves in the league cup. I hope to see a good crowd again to support the lads on the pitch and in the bar after.
