Bacton United v Old Newton United

On a sunny Saturday afternoon we made the short trip two miles down the road to Bacton for a local derby with everything to play for, 2nd vs 3rd. With the pitch looking in top condition it was always gonna be a great game to watch with both teams looking to give nothing away! The game started at a fast pace with Bacton trying to get the ball forward as quick as they could over the top, the Newton lads had to be on their toes. It took us about ten mins to settle into the game and start to get a hold not giving Bacton time on the ball and handling everything they put forward. On about 15 mins in Luke Austin went through, knocked the ball round the keeper only for him to be taken out. To everyone watching this was a stone cold penalty, only person that didn’t think so was the one that counted the, Referee. I have never been one for holding me tongue and should of done but another learning curve which I will have to sort out, anyway back to the game, not getting the pen didn’t affect the players and with us getting on top in first half and some really good last ditch tackles from the Bacton center half's we went in 0 0 with half time. Team talk and listening to the players we new we had to keep it going because Bacton only needed one chance. From the start if the second half Bacton came at us and were determined to put us on the back foot, they had a lot of the ball but were finding it hard to break us down. They had a number of set pieces, however, Ash , Gaughty , Luke , and Jordi defended really well. The break came about 15 mins into the half, a long ball forward and a mistake from the Bacton player left Baxter through on the right with only the keeper to beat, he put it on a plate for Austin to score to put us 1-0 up.We new we had to shut up shop and Bacton had to go for it and that is what they did, they had number of corners and nearly got their reward but Matt Clark was there to save. With every single lad putting a shift in we saw the game out and came away with a massive 3 points and a real good buzz. Bacton are a solid team and work hard for each other, that is why they are at the top end, you can see that.

There was a number of lads who could of got MOTM in my eyes but on his 1st half performance Luke Ranson got it well done mate.
So into next week, another away game to Stanton which will be another tough test, on their day can beat anyone in the league.
Tuesday night training this week got special coach coming into teach Gaughty how to header 'Chicken Head'
