Stanton FC v Od Newton United FC
Luke Austin with a hat trick!
Another away game this week, to my old team Stanton, and with a lot of people waiting for this fixture we had to wait for the Referee to take a look to say yes or no with the frost, fortunately he gave it the go ahead.
With the Reserves fixture being called off I brought a couple of the lads in and with both teams looking for a win Stanton set up very defensively with Campbell up top by himself. The game started with both teams not wanting to give anything away and both keepers not really having much to do. The first chance came when Jordi drilled the ball into the box which just went past the post, we then had another chance Luke going through, but a well timed tackle from Fletcher resulted in a corner. Stanton had a good ten minute spell towards end of the half with the ball finding Campbell but he was unable to find a way through, they also had a few long shots. Half time came as we finished 0-0 and not our best half of the season, I new we could only get better and second half the lads did that, moving the ball about and making Stanton work for it. Our first goal came from good one touch football from Jack and Joji, ending with Luke slotting past the keeper. I then made a sub to bring on Alex Druet, who then gave us more options going forward. It didn’t take long for Luke to get his second, which took a bit of life out of Stanton I then brought George on for Paul who had run his socks off! George gave us more life and he didn’t take to long to get involved, scoring with probably his third touch, a good finish. To be fair to the Stanton lads they kept going and tried to get through the Newton defence, the few times they did Matt was there to head away. The last goal came from a ball over the top, Luke did well and got his hat-trick and well deserved. So the game finished 4-0, I couldn’t of asked for anymore from the lads, they all played well but MOTM went to Luke Austin who never stopped chasing.
So the lads where buzzing after the game, a gentleman's evening followed at the club and was well attended, with Jordi now knowing what a women looks like with no clothes on ;-).
This week we are on our travels again, would be nice to get a home game sometime, however we head to Wickham Market looking to keep the pressure on the other teams at the top.
