Old Newton Utd v Trimley Red Devils

FIRST TEAM NEWS.....

Well with the recent run in form came to an end Saturday against a well drilled Trimley Red Devil’s team, who worked for each other on and off the ball till the end.

With the league having some big games last weekend the lads new how important it was not to lose this game, the warm up was good and the vibe in the changing room was there but when it came to the first half we weren't. We started the game slow and there wasn’t many chances for either team apart from Baxter going through one on one and the keeper making a good save. Our midfield wasn't really getting hold of the ball and were taking too much time and giving it away. Trimley got their reward as we gave the ball away and their big lad shot for outside the box to some how put it in a soft goal in my opinion. Never the less they deserved it with the half coming to the end Luke Ranson and Luke Austin both had good chances but couldn't hit the target, so one down at half time and we were not at our best.

After half time the lads did show some character and started to play and put Trimley under pressure with Baxter having good chance, but the keeper was there again, then Stone with a one on one which the keeper saved yet again! Trimley were hard to break down and they worked hard with time running out I had lost count of how many set pieces we had. In the dying seconds we had one last chance, Gaughty bringing it down, but again keeper making a save. So another defeat and a hard one to take but got to give it to the Trimley boys they stuck at their job and got 3 points, I could see after they new they were lucky, and luck is what u need in footy and I wish them all best for season. MOTM was Ash Thompson who gave nothing away, however could of been any of the back four in my eyes.
So on to next week Mendlesham away, a massive game if we are to keep pressure on other teams and i'm looking for a reaction from a few lads that in my eyes weren’t there Saturday.
