FIRST TEAM NEWS.....
Finally a dry Saturday and with the Newton pitch recovering really well from our game, in atrocious conditions, two weeks ago there has to be a special mention about the time and effort that the groundsman puts in, we are all very grateful!

Our opponents this week were Stowupland and with a few lads who have once played for Newton in their ranks I knew they were going to look to take all the points.

My lads were in good spirt after a poor result from the week before and with them going out wanting to put it right they put together a good footballing display, keeping the ball and moving it which Stowupland were finding it difficult to track.

We opened the scoring after 10 mins, some good football in midfield gave Niall a run across the box and with a left foot shot hit the top corner, a really well taken goal. Jordi was finding a lot of space on the right and getting behind their defence, the only thing it needed was a finishing touch, with Cookie and Luke both going close. We then got our second, Cookie playing a pass to Niall who then slipped through to Luke to score a well driven strike under Taylor in goal. With the defence playing the ball out from the back Luxford and Jack then linked up, Jack delivered a ball into the box which kindly fell to Luke to get his second. So 3-0 half time and Liam in goal not really having much to do.
We new we had to be on it second half, Stowupland raised their game and we were complacent, starting slowly which gave Stow' a lift. They were finding more of the ball and 15 mins in they got their reward, a Corner going just over the line, which the Ref gave. We then started to have little bit of play but final balls weren't there. Stowupland had few set pieces but they were finding it hard to find a way past Ash and Deano at the back.

Towards the end of the half Tooke had a good chance just wide and then his delivery into the box found Luke who headed it over the line although it wasn’t given. Taylor then made a good save from Luke one on one, so no hat trick today. The game ended 3-1, a good battling proformace and I was impressed how Stowupland never gave up, even after being 3-0 down all credit to those boys.
Donkey of the week went to butter finger Jordi, let’s hope it’s not three times!
MOTM was Ash who won everything thrown at him, well done chap.

Next week we are away in Bury to play Sporting 87, who have been on a good run of late, so another test but happy with the way we are going . A couple more signings this week and the squad is getting there.
