Trimley Red Devils v Old Newton United

Share of the points

Saturday we traveled over to play Trimley Red Devils, who are sitting in second and looking to put pressure on Claydon for the title.
With our Reserves in a strong position to fight to the end for the Intermediate A title, which is a credit to the players, I managed to give them a little help with couple of players. This meant Wez and myself where having to put the boots on just incase!

Going into the game I told the lads it’s been a good season and there is no pressure today, go out and do what I know you can do and enjoy the football. The first 20 mins they did just that, getting on the ball and moving it quickly, Alex and Luke not giving Trimley defenders any time. They got their reward soon after, Luke out wide putting a cross into Alex who found the net with a good link up goal, which was good to see.
Trimley were trying to get the ball forward as quick as they could with the long ball up to Gibson, which Ash was comfortable with. As the half moved on and with both teams playing nice football Austin went through one on one, which I thought he was going to put away, but some how he passed it back! He tells me he tried a lob but I'm not so sure.

Following a break in the play, as TRD keeper had to come off, the replacement keeper played a short pass for the player to launch long, causing us to make a mistake. Two defenders went for the same ball allowing TRD go through and set Gibson up on edge to side foot into the corner.

Jay then made a decent stop just before half time with a deflected shot.
Not much to say at half time to the lads apart from keep going and enjoy it, apart from the little mistake the lads were doing well.
The second half came and went without much to talk about. Both defences kept it solid, with not many shots on target, so the game finished 1-1, a decent away result to a good, well organised TRD team. I would like to wish them all the best for next season, as they look certain to get promoted, and in the Junior Cup final.

MOTM for the game went to Ranny.

So with one game left at home to my friends Stanton it should be a good day, depending on who comes out of the hat in what position!
