Ampthill 4s V ON’s 4th 41 – 5
This was always going to be a tough challenge, Ampthill are currently top of the league and thrashing every other team. A few morning drop outs meant we would travel with only 1 sub. The game started with ampthill on the attack, our tackling was good and it was disappointing when we missed tackles on their fullback and he scored. This was followed by another try in the corner. Now the injuries started, Tony went off from prop and was soon followed by Steve at 9. Now we would have our best period of the game. For 25 minutes we camped in their half and pushed for the line. In this period Angus left the field but down to 13 we still stayed on the attack and finished the half 12 – 0 down.
The second half was going to be even harder. With 13 men and facing a very young opposition we did every thing we could to keep them out. Towards the end of the half numbers and energy had got the upper hand with Ampthill scoring 3 tries in the last 10 minutes. With 2 minutes to go and our kick the Ref asked if we wanted to end the game,” NO”. We kicked off, won a scrum then a penalty and went through to score. A great performance from every player and not a sign of a head going down. However it was disappointing that the home team with 5 subs didn’t offer us any players to keep it 15 each. League or not I hope we never sink to their level of sportsmanship.
Scorer’s Adam Civil
Man of the Match all 16 players.
Caftan Andy Browne
, although not awarded for any playing discrepancy, there was an incident in the showers. The only hot water was in the disabled shower and with everyone queuing Andy ask if there was a spy cam in the disabled loo/shower, now what sort of mind would think of that.
Point of concern, after a fine performance, Jobo now back in our bar held an in depth conversation with Bev. The subject was bin collection day, come on you 2 get a life.
Next week we have Scouts 3s in the league at home, Bev will text the squad in the week
Have a good week, Roly
