Captains hat trick from Ellie Adcock sets the tone

The first full 15 a side game of the season was played as a friendly in the format of three X 20 minute sessions to allow the coaches to try different options and take breaks for coaching. With both sides fielding new players and many still missing from ONs, there was plenty of re-jigging even before kick off.
Lutterworth are always physical upfront and they didn't disappoint, with a large pack, strong scrum and a capable fullback. Early on, ONs seemed to have the crisper handling and were recycling the ball well. The new girls integrated seamlessly and it was pretty free flowing. By the end of the 1st third, ONs were
28-0 Up but there were plenty of indications that Lutterworth had more to give. The back rows were influential with Kat winning a couple of nice turnovers early on to tip things our way and the Lutterworth 7 putting a lot of first up pressure on our 9-10 channel with stand in fly half Lowri doing her best to keep it straight and stop us drifting. Player of the match and captain Ellie Adcock was giving the team some much needed go forward and a contact body position, much improved from last year brought the reward of three well taken tries. Millie managed to cut through for one as did Chloe with a storming charge. Alice showed that familiar, Penelope pit stop pace to earn another and Sophie jefferies was rewarded with one from some fine, direct running. Izzy Hannay showed good speed for an individual effort but the ref decided a few minutes later that she was too quick off the mark for him and yellow carded her for two perceived infringements. Lowri had her best kicking boots on and racked up 6 from the boot. The final twenty saw ONs pick up a number of injuries and with only 14 on the pitch and a number of players in odd positions, we struggled a little to stay connected in defence.
All in all, a good test from Lutterworth with the final score ONs 52 Lutterworth 15
A mention should go to the forwards who did a lot of grunt today and to Anna who delivered fast, good quality ball all afternoon, It was only with this foundation, that the backs were free to cut loose. Good effort, plenty to build on.
