With a couple of players missing who had decided that the seaside was more tempting than playing rugby, the U18 girls got their league season underway in the best possible way.
Eccleshall arrived with 7 players so the game was played on the smaller pitch with only 15 minutes each way, which in the heat was quite enough. The ON’s got off to the best possible start with a Lucy Juffkins break off the back of the scrum, sidestepping the defenders and running in from 50 metres. Further tries followed in quick succession from Gina Strausa, Ella Halcrow and Hayley Stevenson who stormed down the wing with Eccleshall in hot pursuit. Half time score 26 – 0.
The league rules state that the game finishes at 40 points so from the restart the match lasted only 9 more minutes to see three more tries to win the game. Abbie Kikta on her debut, who only came on at half time scored two of the tries with great support play. Even though the game was won we continued to play out the remaining 6 minutes and scored two more tries.
