Under 9's The Raiders
A tough physical encounter against Wharfedale ended in stalemate at 3 tries each for Old Rishworthians Under 9's at the weekend.
Game 1 Wharfedale 3 - 3 Rishworthians Raiders
Wharfedale went into an early lead before Rishworthian's Sam Puddephatt
broke through the defensive line for what should have been the simplest of tries. Unfortunately his early celebration was cut short by a superb covering tackle before he was able to ground the ball. The Raiders kept battling away and eventually Sam Puddephatt
made amends for the earlier mistake, dashing twenty yards down the touchline to score.
Sloppy defence allowed Wharfedale to restore their lead almost immediately, but a trademark sniping run down the blind side for Raiders winger Kallan Jamieson brought the scores level. A war of attrition ensued, with both teams struggling to recycle clean ball. Instead, long periods of the second half involved at least 12 players struggling to rip the ball out of a maul. Rishworthian's Toby Muscat-Baron put in plenty of big tackles, earning himself plenty of bruises in the process, and new recruit Luke Sadler made several darting runs with the ball - most of which were in the right direction!
Wharfedale scored late in the game for what looked like being the winning try, before Raiders man of the match Callum Bell
ripped the ball out of another mass huddle around the ball, rolled away and sprinted forward to score a fine solo try to tie the match 3 - 3.
