With September sees the start of Autumn, the reopening of schools and the return of the rugby season!

2017/2018 will see Tiffs play their 4th consecutive season in the London Leagues. Having finished 5th, 6th and 3rd in the past three seasons, the boys from Summer Avenue will have justified hopes of a genuine promotion push this year.

Who will be standing in their way?

Well returning to class are : Basingstoke, Battersea Ironsides, Old Cranleighans, Teddington, Trojans and Weybridge Vandals. These sides will be joined by new boys: New Milton & District, Old Emmanuel, Petersfield, Portsmouth and Warlingham.

Tiffs of course know New Milton & District (up from Hampshire 1) and Old Emmanuel (Surrey 1 champions) very well, but what of the other 3?

Petersfield won Hampshire 1 last season, finishing equal on points with NM & D but having won 1 more game, whilst Petersfield and Warlingham have come down from London SW 2. Warlingham in particular will be looking for a fresh start, having not won a single game last season.

Not only does the league have new faces, but the Match Preview also has a new feature as we now bring you the full fixtures from each round at the bottom of the page, highlighting the other key games each weekend. Whilst OCs v OTS is the standout fixture of round 1, Old Portsmouth's trip up the A3 to Old Emmanuel pits the newly relegated side against the newly promoted one and may prove an interesting insight into the respective strength of each team.

Turning to the most important game today, Tiffs start off where they famously finished the 2016/2017 campaign. The win on that hot sunny day saw Tiffs leapfrog OC's in the league and resulted in the boys from Grists making history and finishing the season in 3rd, the club's highest ever RFU league finish.

That result is of course now just history and OCs will no doubt be hungry for revenge over a side that did the double over them last season. Their victory over Bec Old Boys last week (67 v 17) shows what a destructive force they can be.

Whilst the new season sees some change, some things remain the same and Tiffs will be led out once more by Captain Jaewon Jang, who was shortlisted for the National Amateur Rugby Player of the Year 2016/2017 award. Congrats once again Jae.

Kick off is 3pm, so come on down to the (allegedly) nicest clubhouse in Surrey to cheer the boys on!
