“” Kilburn Kosmos 20pts – Verulamians RFC 10 pts “”
Having lost a few very good players in the close season Vees team line – up was very different to previous years, yet their performance was very spirited and some of the new young faces showed great promise. The tackling was tremendous and denied the better Kilburn side their 4 try bonus point.
Early exchanges showed that Vees were a little unused to playing with each other, but as the game progressed cohesion occurred and particularly up front started to give the opposition some concern.
Kilburn went into a 7 minute lead with a well executed set piece try which was unconverted. Gareth Waters immediately struck back with a 40 mtr long range penalty to make it 5 –3. Unfortunately for Vees, after showing some tremendous defence conceded a penalty for offside in front of their posts to enable Kilburn to go in 8 –3 at half time.
The half time talk from Captain Sam Perry helped to transform Vees play into an attack mode and they began to pressure Kilburn’s back line, but could not succeed with the final try potential pass. Although Vees were the fitter side towards the end Kilburn managed to score two out of the blue unconverted tries to take them to an unassailable 20 – 3 winning lead. Vees rallied ten minutes from the end and the ever tenacious Josh Lawrence bounced off and ran through the opposition to score under the posts for a Gareth Waters conversion to make the final score 20 – 10 to Kilburn Kosmos.
This coming Saturday Verulamians entertain Tabard RFC at Cotlandswick with a 3 pm KO ‘’.
