‘’ Royston RFC 14 pts – Verulamians RFC 22 pts
With three heavy defeats behind them Vees journeyed to Royston RFC on a very dismal, wet afternoon hoping to change the direction of their season.
This they successfully did and throughout the match, in which there were many spilled balls, they managed to stay on the front foot and hamper the limited success of the opposition at the scrum and lineout. Both the forwards and the backs played as a determined unit and the half backs of Breeze and Walters blended well and enabled Cameron Craig and new centre Charlie Jones to maintain added pressure.
Through total team effort they forged a 12 point lead at half time with two tries from gritty Josh Lawrence and then added another two in the second half from player /coach Sam Perry and Cameron Craig. Three kickable conversions were squandered, but Vees four tries secured a valuable, merited bonus point.
Next Saturday, being a League rest week for Verulamians, it is hoped to get in extra fitness sessions and nurse some of the Club’s spate of injuries in advance of their Cotlandswick League clash with Stevenage RFC on Sat Oct 20th. “
