St.Albans RFC 12 pts vs Verulamians RFC 41 pts

“ St.Albans RFC 12 pts vs Verulamians RFC 41 pts

In this local derby St. Albans went into a 5 – 0 lead in the first 10 minutes with a well deserved try after some impressive forward power. However Vees then began to assert themselves and gained a penalty which Alex Ricci converted. Play then concentrated midfield until Ben Russell from 40 mtrs out fought his way under the posts to enable Alex Ricci to convert and give Vees a 3 – 10 lead, which they thereafter never looked like relinquishing. This was followed by the fly half cleverly chipping over the advancing St. Albans defence to enable the fleet - footed George Irwin to pick up, score under the posts for Alex Ricci to convert and put the game result beyond doubt.
After another Vees penalty at the opening of the second half, St. Albans due to an injury to their fly half made a couple of well – timed substitutions and clawed back a goal to improve their score to 12 – 25. However, this only spurred on a now rampant, eager Vee back divisions to scythe through the opposition defence with Crick Gillespie and Adam Rees and Ricci scoring the remaining points to enable Vees a satisfying Christmas celebratory win and regain the top slot in the LONDON NW3 League.”
