Sad times as Old Wheat passes

Peter Amery,

On 4 February Pete Amery a long standing Old Wheat passed away aged 86 after being taken ill earlier in the day. He started playing for the Wheats in the early 1950s and when he finished playing took to refereeing and then watching and mentoring refs. He served in official positions with the Wheats and the Old Boys Association and maintained a connection with Bablake. He served the City as a Magistrate and was involved with a number of charities.

Ever the organiser Pete will be remembered for the Easter tours he arranged. Initially Bournemouth and Tenby and then in 1962 to Sidmouth. Players have not been for a number of years but the 'originals' have continued to go and indeed Pete was planning to be there this year for the 55th time.

He leaves his wife Heather and daughters Louise and Sara.

R.I.P. Pete

His funeral is on Friday 24 February, 1.30pm at Canley Crematorium.

Pete is the second Old Wheat to pass away over the last month, with Paul Murphy passing away after a long battle with illness since October last year. His funeral was held last week. RIP Murph

On Saturday the players take to the field against Rugby St. Andrews (2.15pm KO) and will hold a minutes silence to remember these two fantastic gentlemen.
