Ollerton moved nearer to securing their survival on Saturday afternoon
Ollerton Town ended Selby’s four game winning run on Saturday, picking up a deserved point in the North Yorkshire sunshine to edge closer to securing their NCEL Division One status.
The Town were looking to build on last week's win over Shirebrook Town and complete the double over Selby after an impressive 4-0 win back in October.
The first was half was a dismal affair with a catalogue of misplaced passes and niggly challenges. Neither side created anything worthwhile, although Ollerton forward Lewis Bingham forced Peter Lawrie into a fine save. At the other end, James Arnold went close with a strike from distance and then a few minutes later, Dane Mortimer saw his shot fly past the Ollerton goal.
The game opened up a little in the latter stages and Callam Terrell should really have done better with a header following a freekick for Selby.
Ollerton took off new boy Ashley Shannon and striker Kyle Ludlow, bringing on Josh Bowkett and Ben Bowring early in the second half. They also pushed the hard-working Greg Tobin into a more advance role yet despite his aerial prowess, Ollerton still failed to cause Lawrie any problems.
With fifteen minutes remaining, Terrell saw his effort go inches over but despite Selby enjoying the lion’s share of possession, they simply could not find a way past the well organised Ollerton defence, marshalled well by Rob Evans and Jordan Schofield and in the end, both teams were forced to settle for a point with Ollerton probably being the happier of the two. Selby have now failed to score against Ollerton in the two meetings between the sides this season and Ollerton will be happy to have secured a rare clean sheet.
Ollerton Manager Dave Winter admitted after the game: “We failed to play for the entire ninety minutes. It was not very pretty and I felt sorry for the spectators who turned up to watch. There was a lot of endeavour by us but not much end product unfortunately. Ultimately though, I’m not disappointed with a draw”.
