Ollerton End 2018 With Win Thanks To King Hat-Trick

Gav King's four minute hat-trick, and a last minute Aaron Hewitt goal, saw Ollerton beat AFC Emley

A superb hat-trick from the division’s top marksman, Gav King, saw Ollerton power past AFC Emley by a 4-1 score line as a resurgent December has seen Dave Winter’s men pick up seven points from twelve to somewhat ease any relegation fears.
Ollerton played the first half into the wind and were able to take full advantage as Gav King fired the away side into an early lead. Max Dungworth produced a perfectly weighted pass and King went on to cut back inside before firing into the bottom left corner.
King doubled his tally two minutes later as he brought Taylor Fletcher’s cross under control then struck on the turn to give Ollerton a deserved two goal cushion less than quarter of an hour into the game.
King continued to wreak havoc for the Emley defence and he added his third of the game from an audacious free kick which arrowed into the top right corner from 35 yards out. This completed a ridiculous four minute hat-trick for King who ends 2018 with 40 goals in the calendar year for the Town.
Emley began to turn the tide after a torrid opening 20 minutes but saw little in the way of clear cut chances.
King even came close to netting Ollerton’s fourth at the other end near the half hour mark but on this occasion fired just wide of the post as Ollerton were limited to a three goal lead at half time.
The beginning of the second half displayed just how detrimental it had been to Emley playing against the wind as Ollerton struggled to get out of their own half and were under constant pressure.
Andrew Horbury thought he had got Emley back in to the game as he had the ball in the back of the net but his looping header was ruled offside.
The second half pressure continued but fears of an Emley fightback were lessened as Horbury received his marching orders for a second yellow card due to a deliberate handball.
The home side remained determined in spite of this setback and even pulled a goal back as Wayne Hughes capitalised on a mix up in the Ollerton backline to finish into an open goal from long range.
The ten men of Emley showed grit and fight to attempt to turn the game around in the second half but an unfortunate error from young ‘keeper Jake Bird saw his kick deflect off Ollerton substitute Aaron Hewitt to put the game beyond any doubt and give Ollerton the perfect end to 2018.
