Omagh recorded another fine win at the weekend after this tough encounter on the road. Making light of the long journey Omagh started brightly, playing confidently with ball in hand and putting their opponents under pressure when they had possession. This pressure paid off after a Coleraine clearance kick was charged down and Leon Clarke showed great skill to control the loose ball and touch down for the first score. Matthew Sweeney added the conversion. The Omagh pack continued to dominate their opposite numbers, with the back row of Killen, Crozier and Clements causing havoc. The visitors increased their lead when, after another excursion deep into enemy territory, the ball reached center Nathan Cummings who held off would be tacklers to crash over the line for a great individual try. Again Sweeney added the extras. With the home team rarely threatening Omagh were now playing some of their best rugby of the season. They struck again after a series of forward drives took play into the home 22, the ball was moved to the right wing for Eamon Orr to score in the corner. However the chemistry of the game was about to change after the Coleraine winger intercepted a loose pass to run in under the posts with the last play of the half.
The home team now started the second half with renewed vigor taking the game to Omagh, lifted by their bit of good fortune. The visitors stood up to the early onslaught, but the momentum was now with their hosts. Omagh regrouped and as the half progressed play became centered in the middle third with both teams failing to create a decisive breakthrough. Going into the last ten minutes Omagh conceded a series of penalties which allowed the home side create a sustained period of pressure, but once again Omagh tackled themselves to a standstill to keep their line intact. With the last play of the game Coleraine finally found a gap to score, but it was too little too late as the failed conversion brought an end to the game.In this game of two contrasting halves Omagh showed they are capable of both attaching with flair and defending with grit when the occasion demands.
