Ormskirk Junior Colts 7-29 Oldershaw Junior Colts

Ormskirk went into this game down on numbers and without recognised players in important positions - all against a side that put 50 points on them earlier in the season. Not a good outlook.
However the lads put in a great shift, showing the team spirit and character that has been evident all season.
After a steady start Oldershaw took the lead with a try in the corner after a kick through - but was the winger's foot in touch when he flopped on the ball? No TMO, 0-5.
Missed tackles in the middle and a bit of disorganisation let the visitors in for their second, 0-12. Good hands to the winger after a loose kick out of defence brought the next score, 0-17. Ormskirk woke up, started to get some possession as their depleted pack still managed to boss the scrums - this has been a great strength all season too. Cecil debuting in the centre had a fine game, continually smashing through the defence who swapped their flanker into midfield to thwart him - but he was brushed aside regualarly. Good support from Mike B and Steve Ecott took the ball into the 22 and then Dan stepped his way through the Oldershaw pack only to slip at the vital moment and a try went begging. Olderhsaw broke out near the end of the half and worked another good try, half time 0-24 and a potentially big defeat on the cards.

If ever this was a game of two halves . . . . well the second half was almost all played in the visitors half with Cecil, Saul, Dan and Azza all causing plenty of problems to the visitors who seemed to lose their way - no doubt thinking the points would just come, they didn't. The will to get the ball was immediately showed by Adam who leaped highest to win the ball back from the kick off - not bad for a scrum half!
Early pressure gave Dan another chance to weave through and he did only to slip near the line, but still have the awareness to get the ball to Si, who scored in the corner. A fantastic conversion from the touchline by Azza added two more, 7-24.
Oldershaw ventured into the Ormskirk 22 and good defence from Ste and Dan held them up. 5m scrum won against the head, ball cleared.
Cecil again broke through the middle but lack of support saw the ball turned over at the breakdown and quick hands resulted in the final socre, 7-29.
To win the second half 7-5 after looking at a potentially heavy defeat was a great performance, no fear for Glossop next week now
