A game of 2 halves

We've ran a number of teams very close so far this season and the gap keeps closing, last week we came away thinking we possibly should have beat Stockport and that momentum carried into today's game to score our first win.

It has to be noted that Wilmslow were unable to field a full side so we had an opening advantage, as the Titans found out to their cost last year however if your not prepared it doesn’t mean a thing. The additional space from a 13 v 12 match though suited our open, running style of play and the continuing work in training on playing pattern is started to show dividends now.

Extra man aside, a good drift defence and unimaginative attack play and that particular advantage is null and void. We stuck to our game plan however and managed to exploit the additional space with lethal efficiency. The forwards carried hard all day and the backs attacked any space they could find. Excellent off-loading and support lines leading to a 47-0 score line at half time.

Now the mark of a winning side is not getting to the top but having the right mentality to stay there. Today was hopefully a lesson to the players in how not to do it. Wilmslow came out of the blocks firing and stunned us, to the point that constant infringements and good attacking play led to a second half won 10-7 to Wilmslow. Our captain for the day Scott's ears were burning with the number of chats to the ref. The positive to come out of that however is that while it took a long time we did turn ourselves around and that sort of mental skill will be invaluable in tough games.

A particular mention from me to the opposition who played with a lot of passion in difficult circumstances. Most of this coaching team have been in their position and know how tough it is to stay motivated and keep going so i'd like to wish them all the best for the rest of the season.
