On an overcast and breezy morning, Orrell got back to winning ways in the final game of the mini season.
Orrell scored straight from the kick off when
Leigh were caught out by a clever kick into the breeze allowing Orrell to gain possession and send Luke Greenwood over to the left of the posts. 4 – 0
Orrell had most of the play against a spirited Leigh side and with Alex Gaskell and mark roper prompting well, another try seemed likely. However, a Leigh kick through bounced off an Orrell defender straight into an attacker’s hands for an easy touch down. 4- 6
A long range 60m run from Jack Baxter resulted in a quick play the ball, enabling mark roper to send in Kieron Herbert for an excellent try converted by Jarrod Simm. 10 – 6

The second half saw Orrell pressing hard without being able to overcome a stubborn Leigh defence. Dan Huxley was having an excellent game both in attack and defence with Nairn Ashcroft tackling strongly and controlling the play the balls and matt fairhurst giving his all as usual.
When Alex Gaskell scored from loose play and with Liam Ivory’s conversion, at last it seemed like Orrell would pull away. 16 – 6
Leigh had other ideas and following a penalty they pulled back a converted try. 16 – 12
A great run by Phil Atherton saw the ball passed out wide to prolific scorer Luke Greenwood, who crashed in at the corner for an unconverted try. 20 – 12
Dan Huxley sealed the match with a clever ball steal and 60m race to the line for a try converted by Liam Ivory. 26 – 12
In the closing minute Leigh scored a consolation try which was converted to make the final score 26 – 18.
