| Crosfields | 22 | vs | 46 | Orrell St James |
Good Away Win
Questions remained with the coaches leading into the game. How would the team respond to last weeks defeat and what did the lads have left in the tank for another tough challenge.
The game started with both sides testing each other. Crosfields were first to open the scoring with a 5th min converted try, 6 – 0. This stung Orrell into life and a quick fire 7th min attack down the short side ended with Centre Chris wright grounding the first Orrell try, 6 – 4. Orrell continued to press forward in attack and were dismayed to loose Prop Brad Moneypenny with a badly broken nose within the first ten minutes. Hooker Danny Fallon attacked the hole left by the markers bursting through before dummying the fullback to crash over for a 12th min try. Fallon converted his own try, 6 – 10. Orrells team efforts continued in attack and defence. Stand-off Adam Kay continued a good set, asking questions of the defence before Fullback Ryan Parkinson showed his support hitting a short ball to slide in wide out. Hooker Fallon again added the extras, 6 – 16.Crosfields responded with a 23rd min try to make it 10 – 16 and then two further converted tries to make it 22 – 16 at the half hour mark. Again Orrell fought back, Fullback Ryan Parkinson slid in for his second try after taking a lovely short ball on the line from Stand-off Adam Kay. Hooker Fallon kept his cool to add the extras from wide out to make it level as the ref blew for half-time 22 -22.
After running repairs and refuelling, Orrell started the second half with good attacking sets. Prop Jake Williams took the ball in hard and broke through, rounding the defensive cover to plant the ball over the line. Fallon converted 22 – 28. Great efforts from all the team showed their desire to work for each other. The backs willing to help out, taking the ball forward and looking for work all the time. Centre Jordan Topping burst onto a drop-off to slice through the defensive line and glide in for a 47th min try. Hooker Fallon converted 22 – 34.The forwards continued to build momentum. Second row Paddy Boyers capitalised on great yards, picking up from acting half, Paddy power enabled him to bust between the two defending props before evading the Fullback to score. Fallon converted 22 – 40.On 63 min Hooker Fallon gave Prop Jake Williams a short ball, he burst the line putting Fallon clear to race 30metres downfield. Prop Williams picked up and took it forward again before offloading in the tackle to the supporting Hooker Fallon on the inside to sprint for the line and ground his second. Fallon again added the conversion to make it, 22 – 46 at full time
This was a solid team performance from a group of lads that clearly have belief in each other and pride in representing the club. Every one of them played their part but special mentions today go to Fullback Ryan Parkinson for his two tries and contribution in both attack and defence. Hooker Danny Fallon for his two tries 7/8 conversions and overall play in particular directing the team around the field. Scrum half Adam Lavin and Standoff partner Adam Kay whose distribution skills were a constant threat. Coaches Man of the Match today goes to Second Row Patrick Boyers who played above his weight in attack and defence and capped off what must be one of his best games in an Orrell shirt with a classy try.
All the U17 wish Loose forward Olly Davies Good Luck and best wishes when he joins the England squad this week for a two match series to be played in France. Good Luck Olly!!
