Ossett overcame stubborn opposition to secure the bonus point in the final play of the game. Matt Dey, playing his last game for Ossett before joining the forces, finished a superb move to sign off in style.

Ossett dominated the early exchanges and set up camp in the Knaresborough 22. Ossett’s scrum was dominant and drove Knaresborough back all afternoon giving their pack a torrid time. A scrum against the head allowed Drury to break on the blind side and score the first try. A penalty made it 8-0.

As so often has happened this season, Ossett failed to drive the advantage home and Knaresborough enjoyed more possession and drove over from a lineout to make it 8-7. Another penalty from Ossett extended the lead to 11-7 at half time.

Knaresborough scored next from an interception try where the Knaresborough fly half picked the pass perfectly and ran 70 yards to score under the posts to make it 14-11 to Knaresborough with 20 mins left.

Ossett kept their cool and the addition of Jack Mumford gave Ossett a little bit more go forward after several aggressive runs. From one such break Grogan received the ball on the 22 who offloaded to Lister who got to within 2 metres who popped the ball up to Dave Hanley who scored a great try. Well done Dave who is working hard to keep popping up on the shoulder of the man with the ball.

The third try again involved Grogan who passed to Mumford who offloaded to Sprott in space. With a 2 vs 1 Matt Dey ran onto the ball at pace and finished under the posts to make it safe.

Knaresborough had a lineout on half way in the last play of the game so the bonus point looked unlikely. However, Jack Peat disrupted the lineout and Ossett set up an attack. After a few forward drives Grogan nipped through the gap and drew the full back to give Dey a pass on the inside to finish in style.

Some decent performances especially from the front row who were rock solid. Rich Lister is on fine form at the moment playing at his favoured position of hooker. Gary Heywood has played three different positions in the last three games (hooker, centre, back row) and never lets anyone down and was rightly given MOM.

Well done to Matt Dey who played his last game (for now) for Ossett. Matt has given good service to the club this year and is the current top try scorer. He has honoured the Clubs Players Charter by playing up to his start date and on behalf of the club we wish him well in the forces.

Ossett now up to 6th with a big game vs Wetherby next Saturday.
