Ossett 15- wetherby 42

It was always going to be an uphill task to alter the league leaders 100% record... but Ossett turned up, ready to play and represent their club with pride.
The match kicked off with fast paced, flowing rugby and both sides were determined to put their mark on the game. A well drilled Wetherby side took early possession and tried to punch holes through the resolute Ossett defence. Phase after phase saw both teams competing hard at the ruck and it took Wetherby 20 minutes to break through and score the first try of the match. Ossett heads didn't fall and replied with a try of their own through a quick tap from a penalty, Wardy did what he always does and caught the Wetherby defence napping.
It was clear from the off that Wetherby wanted to dominate the scrum and in the early going this was evident but the Ossett pack dug in and began to make a battle of it. One clear area of dominance for Ossett was the lineout, as Jack Peat and Matt Green continually disrupted and stole ball from the Wetherby line.
Ossett went in to the half down 3 tries to 1. Most teams would have capitulated but Ossett were determined to continue to have a go. This was evident from the kickoff of the second half, where Ossett changed tactics and played a new pattern that they have been working on. We continued to put phases together through the forwards and when the Wetherby defence opened up, we tried to throw the ball out wide to our backs. The result was two tries for Ossett to Wetherby's 3 in the second half.
Ossett never stopped battling and even tried to run from deep on the last play of the game. It was definitely a fun game to be a part of and Ossett can hold their heads high knowing that they gave the league leaders a good game. It is something for Ossett to look forward to as we have been working hard on tightening up our struture of play and focussing heavily on our defensive system. It was clear to see where Ossett need to go from here in order to push up the league for next season. I am confident that if we stick together and continue to work hard in the off season, we will reap the benefits come next season.
the coach is very proud of the boys for how we competed in the second half of the season and can see things are starting to come together. Well done to all at Ossett and congratulations to Wetherby!
