OSSETT 2ND XV 68 AIREBOROUGH 3rd XV 0

OSSETT 2ND XV 68 AIREBOROUGH 3rd XV 0

MOM Points
Dick Woffenden = 5
James Cowsill, Mark Webster = 4
Joe Woffenden, Gavin Wainwright = 3
Ben Woolley = 2
Ollie Milner = 1 played for the opposition)

In midweek Ossett wondered whether they would be able to fulfil this fixture with only 13 names confirmed. However, thanks to a rallying call from skipper Paul Westerman, he managed to conjure up a great looking side. In came centre Mark Webster who unfortunately for the club, is in semi-retirement, and also Gavin Wainwright stepped in at stand off and Joe Woffenden was also back to take his place alongside father Dick - a formidable pairing! From the off, Ossett looked to have too much class for the opposition, and with the forwards dominating set piece play, it looked as though Aireborough would have to endure a torrid afternoon.

At half time the score was 40-0. By full time the score had risen to 68-0. The list of scorers as follows:-

Mark Webster - 4 tries
James Cowsill - 2
Joe Woffenden, Paul Westerman, Gavin Wainwright and Jeremy Broadhead - 1 each.
James Cowsill also converted 9 out of 10 for a fantastic personal haul of 28 points. This maybe an Ossett record, I am unsure.

Suffice to say that this was a great result, if a little one-sided, albeit that the visitors to their credit never threw in the towel. Ossett’s second string have now climbed to the heady heights of 7th in the merit table, and if they can keep some continuity of players will climb even higher.

Unfortunately Cowies achievements are no where near a record , Andy Mills once converted 18 out of 19 at home to Sheffield Tigers 3rds - in a 112-3 victory , they scored first!!!

they never said it was there 3rds ,but after the game we heard them making calls back to the club to see how the 1sts and 2nds had done , and their website said their 2nds were at Ossett and 3rds at Ilkley , however it would appear they 'swapped fixtures' and again their website backs this up. I hope this does not effect our result with regards to the merit league

    Great performance and result.
This was a merit league fixture against Aireborough 2nds, regardless of who they sent so the result will stand as such. As previous comment on another post, due to the way the league points system works we are 6th not 7th in the league moving us above Aireborough 2nds on average points per game.

I looked on their website to check and it did say it was their 3rds,but who knows and as long as we get points who gives a f@*&. Jez, I should have remembered that 112-3 win as I played in it. I cannot however remember if I scored 2 or 3 tries!!!! P.S. you are again right in saying they scored first!!
