Ossett finally got back to winning ways with a hard fought encounter with Mosborough.
Ossett started the brighter and played some fast and exciting rugby. Throwing caution to the wind paid off with Fray and Dey cutting through the Mosborough defence on several occasions. The pressure eventually paid off with a penalty that Drury struck sweetly through the posts to make it 3-0.
The only try of the game came from a Mosborough clearance kick fielded by Jack Peat. After several forward drives the ball was spun through hands with Jack Drury giving executing a 2 vs 1 perfectly to send Matt Fray over in the corner. Another penalty made it 11-0 at half time.
The second half was a very different story with Mosborough enjoying large amounts of territory and possession. The Ossett scrum was dominant as it has been throughout the season. However the lineout was creaking with Jack Peat off the field injured.
Mosborough continued to batter away at the Ossett defence. The tried catch and drive which were continually repelled. They also looked to play wide and move the ball – all to no avail. A huge defensive effort kept Mosborough out all half despite being held up over the line 2-3 times and two tries being disallowed for forward passes. Excellent one on one tackling, defensive realignment and line speed made life difficult for Mosborough and allowed Ossett to keep a clean sheet for the first time this season.
Many positive performances. Matt Fray gave a faultless display on the wing in his first 1st XV game in several years. The pack worked their socks of especially Lister and Young who made turnovers at the crucial times and tackled all afternoon. Jack Drury also played his best game in a while in the midfield.
Good to finish the year off with a win with a 3 week gap until the next league game away at Hemsworth.
