Report By Fonquernie

I think it’s safe to say that even before kick-off things were looking positive. Ossett were out and warmed up long before Rotherham had made their way up to the field and drills were going well.

Rotherham had a big pack, very big. Some being quite a few stone heavier than their opposite numbers. Ossett knew what their game plan would be. Rolling maul from one end of the field of the other. Mark and Rob had been practicing breaking this up in training due to them being the more vertically challenged members of the team. As it turned out Rotherham had come with a more open game plan but this played into Ossett’s hands quite well and the smaller and fitter Ossett pack were more mobile around the park opening up the backs with space. This space was exploited by Andy Webber in his usual wrecking ball way
.
Ossett started strong but were unable to get through the Rotherham defence. However, Rotherham discipline let them down and Ossett were able to capitalise through the boot of Owen Farrell who had kindly stepped in to cover at full back, but would only wear a ginger wig and wear the same ridiculous pink boots as our Michael Flattley fullback (see Stanley Rodillians match report). Albeit not as ridiculous as them f---ing blue things worn by club stalwart and second team player Drury. Tim, I mean Owen, managed to keep the score board ticking over with four penalties in total.

Jonny Karadzic stepped into the fray again with the first team and once again proved himself fan favourite with another man of the match performance at scrum half. Not afraid to take the ball in or stick a Rotherham player on his arse.

In the second half Ossett managed finally to get over the try line with Jack Drury dancing through two defenders, the conversion was added by Roberts. More strong running and hard tacking ensued, Dale Burnley being the stand out amongst the forwards with Dave Hanley not being far behind. Both using their strength and power to hold back the Rotherham forwards.

Ossett managed to keep Clifton away from the try line, they were only able to score once in the game. They tried again but White managed to stop the bigger Clifton player five meters from the Ossett line after a penalty had been given away, dislodging the ball in the process.

Ossett managed to get one more try when Kitts hit the Clifton 10 like Uini Atonio hit Dillon Hartley on Saturday evening and pounced on the resulting loose ball to break free to get over for Ossett’s second try which was duly converted by Roberts again who scored 16 of Ossett’s 26 points. A third try was on the cards as well but it was fumbled just short.

A good team performance all round and its looking promising for the upcoming games against Burley and the steam roller that is Skipton.
