Report by Mark Fisher

On Saturday 3rd September, Ossett travelled to ‘The Cage’ in Hemsworth. After a strong pre-season of training, Ossett went to Hemsworth full of confidence, despite the weather not suiting their usual free flowing rugby. The result finished with a 34-29 victory to the home side with Ossett coming out as unlucky losers, despite a huge team effort and a devastating last 15 minutes of complete domination.

The first twenty minutes went to the home side despite Ossett only getting into the oppositions half on two occasions the scores were level at six a piece. After the first twenty minutes Ossett suffered a difficult part of the game with the home sideopening up a three try lead and putting themselves all but out of reach of the Ossett side. This period had a major blow on the team but didn’t stop each individual putting absolutely everything they had into the game which was a cold and wet day.

The rain continued but the more it continued in the second half the more Ossett began to adapt to the game and its conditions with a wet and slippery ball the forwards and backs started to do more damage to a weakening Hemsworth outfit. With forwards Gareth Lewis going over before a penalty try was awarded and Dale Burnley then went over for the boys in red and black, as well as Jack Drury kicking 7/7 goals to keep his 100% record for the season. With Ossett dominating the last ten minutes with Hemsworth down to 14 men for the second time in the game the victory seemed like it was coming. Every person on that pitch believed that Ossett was going to complete a dream comeback but the last play miscontrolled the ball and the referee blew the whistle.

Man of the match went to Gareth Lewis nominated by Hemsworth but more importantly 700+ Ossett propping legend Sam Drury was interviewed after the game on a mobility scooter about nominating points.

MOM Points: 5 - D Burnley, 4 - G Lewis, 3 - J Drury, 2 - O Lightfoot, 1 - Front Row
Tries: Burnley & Lewis
Conversions: Drury 2

After such a performance Ossett will be hoping to get their first win of the season on the board this Saturday. The match report next week will be written by Fonquernie and he must include the following three words; unbelievable, mind-boggling and destructive.
