Nine try demolition of joint leaders Stockbridge

Ossett put down a real marker with nine try demolition of joint leaders Stocksbridge winning 59-5.
A brilliant first half display in which the pack dominated in the loose gave Ossett a 33-5 half time lead. After five minutes playing up the slope a break on half way by Luke Newsome sent Tom Rogers through under the posts. Nathan Lawrence converting. Ossett extended their lead after 16 minutes when an over the top pass by Lawrence sent Tom Rogers away and he fed winger Mark Fisher who scored in the left hand corner.
Ossett's dominance in the scrum led to Stocksbridge changing the whole of their front row after just 17 minutes. A big plus mark for Rob Maddocks, Rob Young and Joe Rogers.
Again Ossett pressed up the hill and from a five metre scrum number eight Isaac Troughton shrugged off five attempted tacklers to score. Lawrence again added the conversion. Straight from the kick off Stocksbridge ran the ball but a tackle from Lawrence led to them spilling possession and Tom Rogers seized the chance to run 30 metres to score his second try under the posts, Lawrence converted.
Ossett won line out ball after 35 minutes and after a series of forward gains Louis Dunbavin gave a lovely pop pass to send Lawrence, Lawrence converted to give Ossett a 33-0 lead.
Just on half time a rare Stocksbridge visited into Ossett territory saw them score on the right.
Stocksbridge rallied after the break with their coaches words still ringing in their ears, however Ossett turned over ball on their own line and Lawrence’s clearance kick was well chased by Troughton who collected the bounce and set Lawrence away fir his second try, again Lawrence added the conversion.
On 60 minutes Ryan Fonquerine came through a lineout and produced a text book Peter Kay ‘have it’ volley that sent Ossett deep into Stocksbridge territory.
In the final quarter Ossett added three more tries. Troughton picked up a loose ball near the line to score. Fonquernie charged over from a lapped penalty and Lawrence completed his hat-trick as he followed up Fisher kick through.
A performance that many elder statesmen of the club described as the best performance for many years. The back row of Adam Race, Dale Burnley and Troughton played particularly well. The rest of the pack and backs made ground at every opportunity. Lawrence took his tally to nine tries in four league games.
Ossett have maximum 20 points and have scored 188 points and conceded just 22. A week off next Saturday whilst the Yorkshire Vase first round is completed and then back to the league on 14th October with a home derby against Stanley Rods.
