With Captain James Harvey injured, and Matty Padgett
not making the game due to a broken down car, Albion took a squad of 13 for their opening League fixture away at Hepworth Utd.
The game ended in a 2-2 draw, and the result was slightly overshadowed by 2 crucial Refeering decisions which cost Albion the victory. Albion dominated the first-half and raced into a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from James Furlong
after a good interception by Harry Lee
and Jordan Woffinden
who was excellently put through from a Furlong pass. It should have been 3-0 when Furlong's shot was parried by the keeper over the line before he could clear it, but for some reason the Referee decided otherwise. The Referee then awarded a corner just before Half-Time, when the ball had not gone over the line after keeper Tom Allatt made a straight forward save. From the resulting corner, the ball hit the ground, bounced up on the hard pitch over the near post defender and Allatt to grab a goal back for Hepworth.
The second half was a much more even affair and both sides went close with chances but it was Hepworth who grabbed an equaliser from a header to force a nervy finish. Luke Teece
had a great chance at the death but struck his shot straight at the keeper, so the game ended in a 2-2 draw.
was taken to hospital following an ankle injury during the second-half so we hope he won't be out of action for too long.
Man of the Match went to Louis Spurr
for a really bright debut at left back with Tim Hargreaves
taking the supporting honours for a very strong display. There were other notable hard working performances in the team so well done all of you.
Verdict - Although an away draw is a good result at the end of the day, we feel slightly disappointed in those crucial decisions that went against us. The weather was extremely hot and there were alot of tired legs towards the end of the match, as Hepworth fought back well in the second half. We need to work on our positions when the opposition have the ball, so always things to work on on future training sessions. Well done lads, see you all on Friday.
