A spirited display by Ossett 1st XI sees them closing the gap as they narrowly miss out on a first league win at Undercliffe.

Undercliffe batted well, putting together a handy total of 220 in their 50 overs, pinned back somewhat perhaps by excellent bowling from Ossett's Khalid Usman who took 5 for 56 in a15 over spell containing three maidens.

Nevertheless, Undercliffe opener Toby Thorpe did maximum damage with 81 in 144 balls, while Gulsheraz Ahmed struck a very bright 60 in 75 balls, including 6 fours and 3 sixes, with Michael Loubser contributing a crisp 33 from 29 deliveries.

Ossett's batting lineup were certainly up for the run chase: Javed Umarij 31 off 28 balls, Shabhir Rashid with 44 off 66, Khalid Usman 55 off 88. However, a middle order collapse that produced a mere 17 runs left Tamhir Sagir 33 and Chris Orme 20 just too much work to do in too few overs. Eventually Ossett were bowled out for 217 in 49.5 overs.

Nevertheless. perhaps some green shoots of form are beginning to poke through, but it still leaves Ossett 1st team one place off the bottom of Championship 1A, only virtue of a single point.
