With the 1st XI’s game at Yeadon was abandoned due to weather along with many others, Ossett’s Queen’s Terrace ground evidenced its excellent drainage once again as the Second Team were able to go out to bat against Cleckheaton.
However a total of 116 did not seem an unassailable target, built around what proved to be a significant knock of 43 by Matthew Wood, helped by 18 from lower order batsman Ajmal Zarif.
Cleckheaton’s bowlers were in good form with Ossett all out in 34.5 overs: Samuel Bailey 4 for 20 and Bryan Telfer 3 for 39.
But Ossett’s bowling attack also benefited from the conditions with a pitch offering plenty of movement off the seam as well as turn. Cleckheaton’s Ethan and Anthony Lee top scored on 24 and 25 respectively but their team mates scored in single digits as Ossett’s bowlers wore them down to 107 all out in 38 overs: Conor Andrews 4 for 21, Ajmal Zarif 3 for 20 and Gavin Goodlad 3 for 14
