Ossett to host Wakefield Drax Cup Finals day, a Yorkshire CCC initiative on Thursday 7th June for year 3 & 4 school children, representing 8 Schools.

The Drax Cup is the largest cricket competition for under 9’s in the country. It is a fun and enjoyable way for Year 3 and 4 pupils to discover team sport and develop beneficial athletic and coordination skills. The Drax Cup offers a great opportunity for children to compete against other school children, with those schools lucky enough to qualify for the semi-finals given the opportunity to play on the hallowed turf of the thirty-two times County Champions.

Over 28,000 children have taken part in the Drax Cup since its launch in 2007, playing in festival events, school partnership and area finals.

The annual competition gets into swing after the Easter holidays and is open to all primary and junior schools in the Yorkshire and Teesside region.

The Drax Cup is sponsored by Drax and organised by The Yorkshire County Cricket Club in conjunction with the Yorkshire Cricket Board, The Yorkshire Cricket Foundation and Yorkshire Schools’ Cricket Association.

Yorkshire County Cricket Club’s First XI Coach, Andrew Gale, and England and Yorkshire Diamonds star, Katherine Brunt, are ambassadors for the competition. They have been in attendance at various Drax Cup events and fixtures over the past few years, and act as great role models to all of the children taking part in the competition.
