Ossett get off the mark with 6 point win at Hopton Mills
All round performance from Rich Pyrah, wickets for Charlie Orme and good batting contributions result in a resounding 6 point victory
Hopton Mills won the toss and elected to field on a slow, soft batting surface and a boggy outfield.
It was tough early going for the Ossett openers Rich Pyrah and Rob Wade but once they have got through the early overs they really started to push on against the change bowlers. A partnership of 115 in 27 overs was the platform for the rest of the batting order to play with freedom.
Once Wade was dismissed for 34, Shoib Latif continued to support Pyrah who went to 100 with 2 sixes in an over. He was dismissed a few overs later for an outstanding 109 off 107 balls which included nine 4's and eight 6's.
With only a few overs left the rest of the batting order had licence to play attacking cricket on a slow wicket but a very small ground meant the boundries kept coming. Latif scored 18 off 24 balls, Khan 23 of 27, Finnigan 19 off 22 and Edwards 17 off 15 balls to propel Ossett to a final score of 246 for 9.
Charlie Orme and Rich Pyrah took the new ball for Ossett and immediately started to cause problems with very little luck until Pyrah took two wickets in two balls. This started a tumble of wickets that left Hopton 42-5. Pyrah had 3 wickets and Orme had 2 including an outstanding catch from Karl Anderson at midwicket to dismiss dangerman Michael Carroll.
A stubborn stand of 59 halted the Ossett charge until Anderson dismissed the overseas batsmen to make a vital breakthrough and leave Hopton 101-6. Two quick wickets from Latif and one from Orme left Ossett on the brink of victory with only the final wicket required. However the Hopton last pair were not going to give there wickets away and put on 34 in 8 frustrating overs until Charlie Orme got his fourthwicket that resulted in a 95 run wicket and the first win of the season.
