Ossett Town have today added to the squad with the capture of Danny South from neighbours Ossett Albion.

Grant Black has been looking to add to the squad since Nathan Curtis moved to Albion recently and Black did not have to look far to get his man.

South has long since been a target for Ossett Town, indeed former manager John Reed tried to bring him to Ingfield while he was still a Stocksbridge Park Steels player. The Reds have finally got their man and it was a lot down to the current management team, says South.

“I was attracted to the club this time as I know Grant Black and Micky Norbury well, they are both top coaches and I can see the club is going in the right direction, I want to be a part of that”

South has been a popular figure wherever he has played including Frickley Athletic, Goole and Sheffield, and is comfortable at centre back and up front – as we found out on Bank Holiday Monday when a powerful header levelled the scores in the Ossett derby. “I am comfortable in both positions, I am happy to play in either to be honest, the most important thing for me is to play my part for the team. Stopping the opposition is as important as scoring”.

Being able to play the two positions is one of the many things that made Black keen to add South to the squad “He is a player I have admired for some time” says Black “he will add goals, physicality both up front and at the back as well as experience which is key at this level, especially as we have such a young squad”.

“I believe he will be a key addition and cannot wait to get working with him, he will go straight into our squad for the trip to Hyde on Saturday”.

South admits he hasn’t enjoyed his football of late and believes under Black here at Ingfield he will be helped with that “Enjoying my football is important to be personally, while on a club level the side was two minutes from promotion and obviously we want to go that one step further and I believe we can”.

South leaves and Ossett Albion side who sit bottom of the Evo-Stik North tables and finishes the interview by saying “I want to thank the fans at Ossett Albion, their support was always appreciated, I wish them all the best in the future”.
