“Leigh had made his mind up that he wanted to stay at the end of last season”
Ossett Town goalkeeper, Leigh Overton, is set for a match up of a different kind this weekend as he marries his partner of eight years, Victoria Fromont.
Victoria has been a regular on match days to support her husband to be as well as Ossett Town, something she has done ever since they have been together “I’ve been to as many of Leigh’s games as I can” says Victoria “from his time at Grimsby Town to now, once the fixtures are released they will be straight into my appointment book so I don’t book any clients on match days” I have always been his biggest fan! I think it helps players when they have family and friends watching.
At Ingfield officials are keen that the players are not the only focus of the club, the community and family feel is something that has been worked on over recent years, if players know there loved one are comfortable at the club then they can focus purely on what they’re there to do, it is the same for the keeper and his bride, Victoria says “I definitely felt the family environment from the first few games, Leigh’s previous clubs have been friendly but nothing like the community at Ossett Town. I really look forward to match days, not just for the football but for the people there as well”.
There has been some change to the playing staff since the season ended, which is only to be expected. Reds supporters however were delighted when it was confirmed Overton would be adding to his 52 appearances he made in his debut season. Had he wanted to consider a change he would have had a fight on his hand as Victoria says “Leigh had made his mind up that he wanted to stay at the end of last season, I did have a bit of input and basically told him he had to stay as I like the club too much”!
The wedding has been two years in the planning and Victoria cannot wait for the big day “We’ve been together eight years and it has flown by, I am so ready to be Mrs Overton. We are both as bad as each other and miss the football. It is nice to have a bit of time to do other things, like getting married… but we definitely miss it. We’re both sports mad and keep busy by going to watch the speedway every week though”.
Everyone at Ossett Town with Leigh and Victoria every happiness for the wedding on Saturday and the marriage that follows and look forward to welcoming Mr & Mrs Overton to Ingfield next season.
