When Jack Mackie runs out onto the Cross Green turf this Saturday he will be the latest player to make 100 league appearances for Otley RUFC.

Making his debut on 27 August 2011 in the season opener against Hull Ionians (which we won 24-3), he is a third generation Mackie to play for the club. His grandfather played for Otley in the 50’s and whose ashes are scattered on the pitch, and his father played Otley Juniors from U13 through to U18.

Jack played for Otley Juniors from U14 to Colts under the coaching of Steve Goodwill and Ben Middleton, and played for Prince Henry’s 1st XV from 2006 to 2008. He then went down under to play for Queensland University Rugby Academy in 2008, before going to Leeds Carnegie Academy U19. He represented Yorkshire U20 and played at Twickenham in the 2010 final v Gloucestershire (won 15-13).

His first senior rugby was for Wharfedale, James Tiffany had asked him to go there, when he scored on his debut in January 2009 against Stourbridge. When Gary Walker became Director of Rugby he asked Jack to return to Otley.

Since returning Jack been a familiar face around the club, scoring 18 tries along the way and notching up 3 conversions.

Congratulations Jack
