Many will know Mark Irleand and will have enjoyed watching him on a Saturday afternoon.

After breaking his arm badly in the Yorkshire Cup final, and after many weeks of agonising, Mark has taken the tough decision to retire at 26 years old.

Mark came to Otley for the 2013-14 season and started in the opening game against Bromsgrove, scoring nine of the 29 points scored by Otley that day. He went to make a total of 26 appearances that season, scoring 274 points along the way. Sadly for Otley he went to Darlington Mowden Park the following season, and then Sheffield Tigers.

Mark has player the game for 20 years and won't have taken the decision lightly, any player retiring at 26 is a terrible but such a talent as Mark a tragedy.

We wish Mark well for the future, and hope to see him on the touchline when we return to Dore Moor this coming season - it is probably better for Otley we see him there rather than on the pitch!
