So you want to be a Senior Coach

For players who want to put something back, educate themselves or be the next England boss

Please see the note from Midlands Coaching Office

East Midlands Rugby Union and the Rugby Football Union are about to launch a project aimed at supporting players who are looking to move in adult coaching next season. The project will fund players who are considering coaching Adult teams (U18/Colts/Seniors) to attend CPD and foundation workshops of their choice between now and the end of season.

We know that poor coaching is the main cause of player drop out in these crucial age groups so the project would fund these players to participate in the Rugby Ready Course and CPD of their choice. This would develop their Technical, Tactical knowledge and their coaching skills to better prepare them to make the move into coaching, in turn providing higher quality coaching to the players they will work with.

We would encourage these coaches to attend courses that would support them in developing the area that they will be coaching. For example we could fund a player interested in becoming a forwards coach to attend the rugby ready course, plus the Lineout and Scrum CPD courses. This would also put them in a position to take the new RFU Coaching Award (Level 2) should this be something they are interested in doing.

All we need to move this project forward are the name, club and email contacts for players who are interested. We will then contact them directly to invite them to participate in the scheme. This applies to players planning to coach in both the Mens and Womens games.

If you know of any players who would be interested please forward their details to me by Friday January 27th at the latest.

There are limited places available on this project so we have to offer it on a first come first served basis.
