Saturday Football: The only way is up now for Oundle Town
(Peterborough Evening Telegraph Dec 1st 2009)

Oundle were rock-bottom and without a league point to their name when Saunders stepped in last month. They have since reeled off a hat-trick of victories completed by an eye-catching 2-1 triumph at high-flying Moulton Harrox on Saturday.

Scott Martin and new signing Chris Beeby struck in the opening period with only the woodwork denying Martin two further goals.

Saunders said: "I expected us to get results against Stamford Bels and Crowland in our previous two games, but this was beyond my wildest expectations.

"I didn't have to give the lads a teamtalk at half-time, instead we just listened to the Moulton manager going mental at players next door.

"We knew they would come at us in the second half and it was an absolute onslaught if I'm being honest.
But they never really hurt us too much and we were always dangerous on the break.

"We are not foolish enough to think the job of staying in the Premier Division is anywhere near done yet, but I will be disappointed if we don't go on to finish in mid-table.

"The club is a happy place again, we have competition for places and there are more lads keen to come in. Hopefully people will worry about playing us after this result."

Moulton were forced to withdraw keeper Nick Cott at the break after he suffered a broken bone in his neck after being caught by a knee when making a save. Outfield player Ash Godfrey spent the second period between the sticks.

Harrox boss Martyn Cundy admitted: "Oundle took us by surprise in the first half. It was like the Alamo in the second but they defended very well. We have now dropped five points in two games which has cost us the chance of being top.

"Obviously we could have done without losing our keeper as well especially as we let young Elliott Flowers go to Crowland the other week so he could play regular football."
