Following report kindly supplied by Ruthin RFC.

With both Ruthin and Pwllheli lying 2nd and 3rd in the table this was a key match for both teams to keep in contention for the title.

Ruthin started strongly and were unfortunate not to go ahead with a try judged as being held up and then a penalty goal opportunity missed. However it was the visitors who went 10 points up with Ianto Parri jigging past three Ruthin players for a try converted by Osian Parry Jones who a few minutes later kicked a penalty goal.

Almost straight away Blues centre Steffan Morgan burst through the Pwllheli defence for a try converted by fly half Callum Bennett.

Ruthin’s pressure continued and they went ahead for the first time in the game with a try by Ben Taylor. The home sides 1 point lead was not to last long however as just before half time Deio Brunelli capitalised on the visitors pressure to nip past Ruthin defenders for an unconverted try.

The whistle blew for half time with Pwllheli leading 18-12. After the break Ruthin were struggling to get out of their own 22 and Pwllheli went further ahead with Parry Jones going over for an unconverted try.

The Blues reduced the arrears with a penalty goal from Bennett but with the visitors aggressive in the breakdown forcing errors from the home side pinned in their own 22 it was only a matter of time before Pwllheli went further ahead.

Robin Hughes Jones obliged with an unconverted try putting them 28-15 ahead with their bonus point try. With 15 minutes to go the Blues finally found some form and wing Sion T Roberts took advantage of pressure from a good Ruthin scrum in the visitors 22 to score an unconverted try.

The Blues attacking play continued and scrum half Will Mitchelmore forced himself over the whitewash for a the Blues bonus point try which Bennett converted.

With the score at 28-27 to Pwllheli it looked like Ruthin might just steal a win but it was all too late, Pwllheli’s defence held and the whistle blew for full time with no further score after an exciting match.
