Handbook Cover Star Strong Hits Match Winning Boundary
Nondies skipper Garry Adamson invited Sandford to bat on a damp wicket at Bletchington. His instincts looked well founded as the home attack had a strangle hold on the Sandford batting. At 80-7 after 43 overs Nondies would have expected to be chasing less than the 147-8 as some sloppy work in the field allowed the visitors to score quickly at the end of the innings. Mark Strong with 3-21 was the pick of the bowlers but Toukeer Ahmed with 2 for 16 and Sam Butler wuth 2 for 32 also contributed important spells.
In their reply Nondies looked set for a comfortable at 88-2. However, a middle order collapse left them with 13 to get from the last 2 overs with 6 wickets down. Sam Butler and Nick Smith perished before Mark Strong drove the last ball of the innings to the cover boundary to clinch a thrilling victory. Opener Atif Ali with 54 was again the stand out batsman.
It was 25 important points for Nondies as they go to table topping Aston Rowant next week.
