Oxford City 0-1 Chester; Marlow 5-1 Oxford City Nomads

Oxford City started their first ever Blue Square North campaign with a 1-0 defeat at home to title favourites Chester.

Boiling temperatures greeted the bumper crowd of 1025, huge numbers of travelling Chester supporters filling the terraces and cheering on as their side took the lead after only 2 minutes when a mixup at the back led to Ian Howard slotting home.

Chester had the best of the half, coming close on several occasions and City were saved by the crossbar midway through the half and may feel they could've been awarded a penalty when the ball made contact with the arm of a visiting defender after good running from Kynan Issac.

City's best chance of the half fell right on half time when Declan Benjamin should really have done better with a left footed effort.

New signing Jack Mills made his re-debut at half time following his release from Reading, the young defender spent some time on loan 2 seasons ago.

City had more of the play in the second half without creating too many chances, Chris Wilmott coming close from a corner.

Chester could and should have scored a second when a driven effort cannoned back off the inside of the post with goalkeeper Warren Carter beaten.

On a day of high scores Oxford City Nomads found widely-fancied Marlow too much of a handful, going down 5-1 to their first Hellenic Premier defeat of the season at the Alfred Davis Stadium.
