Over 40's Cup Qtr-Final
| Old Hooky | 1 | vs | 3 | Oxford City |
Vets through to Semi-Final
The Over 40's were in action this week, and came away with a 3-1 win away to Old Hooky in the Qtr-final of the knockout cup. Manager Holden drafted in 4 new youngsters for their debuts this season in Grant & Ross Kemp lookalikes, Martin Smy & Jason Caffel, the very shy Andy Thomas, and Dave "good first touch" Southam.
Old Hooky took the lead with 8 minutes on the clock, after 56 year old Paul Creed got caught on the wrong side of Chicken George, and just decided to trip him up. From the resulting free-kick, Nobby Solano planted a 30 yard screamer into the top corner of the city net. Cries of "safe" from Sid The cat could be heard all round the Cotswold's??? City then took control, and deservedly equalized on 15 minutes, when Stuart Clarke's pinpoint corner was met on the Nonce of Andy Thomas (No, not the one who played for Oxford United & Newcastle), and he made no mistake planting his header into the top corner, leaving Dave Seaman with no chance. 5 minutes later, and City went 2-1 ahead, as Dave Southam went bursting down the left flank, crossed over to Andy Thomas, who headed down for Paul Spittle to finish clinically with his standing foot from 10 yards.
HALF-TIME: OLD HOOKY 1 OXFORD CITY 2
A couple of changes at half-time, and the boys gave Creedy a massage after being given the runaround by 21 year old Usain Bolt down the left wing.
The third and final goal came 5 minutes into the 2nd half, as Wayne Golden jinked his way past 5 defenders, and slipped Andy Thomas (No, not the one who played for Oxford United & Newcastle), who clinically finished from the edge of the box, and went running over to the City faithful, and pulled his best Gurning face. Thommo was then given a rest, and a round of applause came from all round the ground, and chants of "He's fat he's round he's worth a couple of pounds....THOMMO", and on came youngster Paul "King Kenny" Komber to try and impress. And what a chance he had to prove that he still has what it takes, as he was put through by Golden, only to have a panic attack, and booted the ball 10 feet over the bar.
FINAL SCORE: OLD HOOKY 1 OXFORD CITY 3
Team: Simon Pagano, Paul Creed, Martin Smy, Shaun Pearce, Andy Martin, Stuart Clarke, Jason Caffel, Paul Kimber, Dave Southam, Andy Thomas, Paul Spittle. Subs: Wayne Holden, Mark Orlando
