Hinckley 3-1 Paget Rangers

Paget are left to count the cost of mistakes and ill-discipline after falling to defeat at high-flying Hinckley

Paget Rangers went down to a disappointing defeat in the first part of their Bank Holiday double in Leicestershire. Hinckley AFC, who ended the Bears’ FA Vase run last season, benefited from a moment of Paget indiscipline and some fortune in front of goal.

After an even opening 15 minutes Paget began to create chances and home keeper Whitcombe made a good save to deny Troy Baker whilst Ross Dempster and David Franklin both had chances to open the scoring. The hosts also went close when Paget keeper Josh Benton saved from George Bowerman and Richard Munday headed against the Bears’ crossbar. However, two incidents just before half-time ultimately affected the outcome of the match. Firstly, Hinckley took the lead when a clearance hit Bowerman and went into the Bears’ goal. Then captain Rioual Kousseba-Bakala was sent off for elbowing a Hinckley forward.

Once again reduced to ten men, Paget struggled to contain the Hinckley forwards and just before the hour mark Healy scored from close range. After Bowerman had hit the Paget bar, the Bears got back into the game on 76 minutes when Danny Carter delicately lifted the ball over Whitcombe from an acute angle to give the Bears hope. However, Hinckley had the last word a minute later when Bowerman scored his second goal of the afternoon. Hinckley still had time miss a penalty and to hit the Paget woodwork for a third time before the referee ended a frustrating away match for the Bears.
