Paget Rangers inched closer to promotion to Division 1 with an emphatic 7-0 victory over already relegated Continental Star.
The Bears started the game pretty much in control, and Daniel Carter could have put Paget up after just two minutes when he latched onto a great over the top ball, however the Continental goalkeeper was let off when Carter put his shot wide.
Star responded when Jhyron Burke beat the offside trap but he too sent the ball wide. Paget upped their game with both Carter and Jeorge Smith having chances.
However it was Luke Bradley who finally found the net after 10 minutes. Smith laid Bradley off and the Paget winger wasted no time sending the ball flying past Remi James.
After Paget’s first goal the ball was barely in the Paget half as Billy Fagg, Ross Dempster, Craig Evans and Carter all had chances to double the Bears’ lead.
Again it was Bradley who found the net again 14 minutes later, a poorly defended corner landed at Dempster who was waiting on the edge of the box, but his shot was parried away by the goalkeeper straight into the path of Bradley who sent the ball straight into the goal.
Just a minute before the half hour mark Bradley completed his hat trick, again from a corner, Smith sent the ball in and Carter’s header from close range was saved, but the ball fell to Bradley who volleyed it home to give the Wee Gers a three goal lead.
Right on the half hour mark Bradley almost added another to his tally, but this time he was denied by a great save. Evans again went for goal but sent his shot over the bar.
The next goal came in the form of a smooth pass into the bottom corner of the goal from Gary Turner, to give Paget a strong lead with just seven minutes until half time.
Paget weren’t done yet, as Dempster stormed forward to slot the ball into the bottom corner to put Paget up by five.
With the game practically over after just 45 minutes the second half was a slower affair and it wasn’t until the 79th minute that Paget scored their sixth, Dempster fired a low shot just to the right of James who couldn’t get enough on it and the ball ricocheted into the net.
Continental started to fight for a consolation with less than 10 minutes to as Jordan Willock forced a great save from Josh Benton, and Jordan Pearson then earned a corner only a moment later.
Relegated Star wouldn’t be the next to score as Dempster slotted the ball into the bottom corner to complete his hat trick and end the scoring for the evening.
A 4-2 win for Redditch Borough over Alvis Sporting Club means Paget can earn promotion to the MFL Division 1 with a win over Coton Green on Wednesday, so come on down to the Trevor Brown Memorial Ground and support the Bears!
